1. What is Coaching, and how is it different from Therapy?
Coaches assume you are whole, capable, and resourceful to concentrate on personal and professional development, helping set and achieve goals, improve performance, rediscover who you are, and enhance skills with future-oriented discussions.
Therapists, on the other hand, address mental health issues, emotional challenges, and past trauma. They often help clients process feelings, work through psychological disorders, and develop coping strategies. Therapists usually hold specific licenses and are trained in mental health. While the terms "therapy" and "counseling" are often used interchangeably, therapy typically involves a deeper exploration of underlying issues and patterns, while counseling focuses on addressing specific, short-term problems and challenges.

2. How do coaching sessions work?
Each session is tailored to your specific needs and goals. We’ll begin by reviewing progress since our last session, discussing current challenges, and identifying areas of focus. By the end of the session, you’ll leave with actionable steps to move forward. Sessions are conducted via Zoom or phone for your convenience.

3. What if I’m not sure what my goals are?
That’s perfectly fine! Part of the coaching process is helping you gain clarity. We’ll work together to uncover what truly matters to you and create a clear path toward achieving it.

4. How do I prepare for coaching sessions?
Before each session, I recommend completing the Coaching Prep Form, which prompts you to reflect on recent accomplishments, challenges, and areas you’d like to focus on. This ensures we make the most of our time together.

5. What happens if I need to reschedule or cancel a session?
Life happens, and I understand that unexpected changes can arise. If you need to reschedule, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice so I can adjust my schedule accordingly. Sessions canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice may be forfeited.

6. Is our coaching relationship confidential?
Absolutely. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of our coaching relationship. Everything you share with me will remain private unless you provide explicit permission to share or disclosure is required by law (e.g., if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others).

7. How long does a coaching engagement typically last?
The duration of coaching depends on your goals and preferences. Some clients work with me for a few months to address specific objectives, while others engage in longer-term coaching for ongoing support and growth. We’ll regularly review your progress to ensure our sessions remain aligned with your needs.
8. What if I feel stuck or dissatisfied during coaching?
Your feedback is invaluable. If you ever feel stuck, uncomfortable, or dissatisfied, please let me know right away. Coaching is a partnership, and together, we can adjust our approach to ensure the process meets your expectations and goals.
9. How do I know if coaching is working for me?
You’ll know coaching is effective if you feel clearer about your goals, empowered to take action, and able to recognize progress in areas that matter to you. During our sessions, we’ll regularly assess your progress to ensure we’re moving in the right direction.
10. What is the difference between an engagement agreement and a session agreements
-
Engagement Agreement: A formal, overarching contract between the coach and the client (or client organization) that establishes the terms of the entire coaching relationship. It outlines the big-picture details of the coaching engagement, including roles, responsibilities, logistics, and expectations.
-
Focus: It’s strategic and long-term, providing the framework for the entire coaching relationship.

-
Session Agreement: A verbal or informal agreement made at the beginning of each individual coaching session. It sets the agenda, focus, and objectives for that specific session. Also called a coaching agreement.
-
Focus: It’s tactical and short-term, addressing immediate priorities or challenges.
11. What are your fees, and how do I pay?
Coaching fees vary based on the package or engagement you choose. Payments are typically made monthly via Venmo before the start of sessions. If you have specific questions about pricing, please don’t hesitate to ask.
12. Can I contact you between sessions?
Yes! I’m available for brief check-ins via email or phone between sessions if you have questions, need support, or want to share a success. These communications are included as part of your coaching engagement.

13. How do I get started?
Getting started is simple! Review and complete the forms included in this welcome package, then email them to Jasen.Miller@colorado.edu. Once I receive your forms, we’ll confirm your first session and begin your coaching journey.
